Funding & Opportunities
Editorial & Verification Standards
Last updated: October 12, 2026
These standards explain how every listing in the Funding & Opportunities directory is researched, checked, kept up to date and corrected.
Sources
Each listing must link to an official source: a page published by the funder or organising institution itself. We don't publish opportunities known only from social media posts, forwarded messages or third-party aggregators.
Original writing
We summarise official announcements in our own words, and add practical guidance — who should consider applying, restrictions that are easy to miss, a checklist and preparation tips. We don't copy funders' announcements, and we always credit and link to the original.
Nothing is guessed
If a funder hasn't published an amount, a deadline or an eligibility rule, the listing says so (for example “Not specified by the funder”) rather than estimating. Amounts are shown only in the currency the funder publishes — we never convert them. Every listing states the form of support, so a loan or an investment is never presented as a grant.
Verification before publication
A listing can only be published after an editor with sign-off rights has opened the official source, compared the listing with it, and recorded the date, the page checked and which details were confirmed. Our publishing system refuses to publish a listing that is missing its official source, an original explanation, its eligibility summary, its application process, its category or a confirmed deadline status.
A verification means the details matched the funder's own published information on that date. It is not an endorsement of the funder and not a guarantee of any outcome.
Keeping listings current
- Listings whose last check is more than 0 days old are flagged for re-checking, show a notice to readers, and are removed from search engines until re-checked.
- When a deadline passes, the listing is automatically marked closed, removed from the default search results and labelled clearly. Closed listings are only kept in search engines when the page remains genuinely useful, such as a programme that reopens every year.
- Links are checked regularly, and broken links are flagged for an editor.
Use of AI tools
Our editors may use an AI assistant to help extract details from an official page or draft a first summary. Anything an AI suggests is marked as unconfirmed, and our system will not let a listing be verified or published until an editor has checked each suggested detail against the official source. AI is never used to invent opportunities, deadlines, amounts or eligibility rules.
Corrections
Every change to a listing is recorded internally. Corrections of factual errors are noted publicly on the listing, with the date. See Corrections & reporting.
